Waste Management Licences

We can help you apply and to remain compliant

Waste management licences are not to be confused with waste carrier licences. The former are very time consuming applications that take several month. Waste carrier licences however take a few minutes to register online and only cost a couple of hundred pounds.

A Waste Management Licence will allow you to import waste into your yard and treat it. A waste carrier licence will therefore only allow you to carry waste from one site to another.

These Licences are also known as environmental permits. These are obtained from the Environment Agency and will take up to 18 months to obtain, depending on the complexity of your site.

You will need a waste management licence/environmental permit if you are looking to start a waste transfer station, recycling centre or metal recycling facility.

The process of applying for an environmental permit however is similar to that of a planning application. It will take a number of months and you will be asked many questions by the regulator. You need to respond to these and eventually you will be granted a permit to operate. The permit is tied to a piece of land.
